Pretty Little Spicy Cocktail

I've already had two of these and I'm a little bit twisted right now. Just FYI.

My cousin Wanda and I always joke about having a show where she makes the meal and I make the drinks to compliment the meal. She's an amazing cook and...well I like to drink. If she's making a dish, I'll make something with one or two obscure ingredients from the meal and I'd stick to the theme.

On this particular day, we had curry chicken (w/ homemade hot sauce), pico de gallo, and a ginger dressed salad.

So...I give you the Spicy Pineapple Cilantro Ginger something-or-the-other.

It will be on our cooking show someday, but here's how I made it:

Ingredients:
Lots of tequila (I like blanco for this)
Pineapple Chucks in Juice (not syrup!)
Cilantro (a few leaves)
Hot Sauce (I suggest Valentina. It's the best compliment to anything Mexican)
1/2 Lemon
Ginger extract (1 tbsp, optional)
Sugar or Simple Syrup

Directions:
In a short cocktail glass, add cilantro, lemon squeeze, 6 drops of hot sauce, ginger, and pineapple chunks. Muddle the eff out of that sucker.
Add 1 1/2 oz tequilla, pinnaple juice, and sugar to taste.
Serve over ice and sip slowly.

Color Pop!

Unrelated to anything ever:

I only went to MAC for mascara...and came out brighter than a gay parade.

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is cute because I came home with a handful of goodies.

Sigh...I'm just gonna curl up in a little ball and cower in the corner of buyers remorse.

Pretty Little Tea Party

I found a tea set my aunt gave me when I was about six years old.

Owl themed. Totally ahead of my time

I have to thank my mom for hanging on to this set. Apparently it was a pretty penny back in the day so I only got to use it on special occasions.

Oddness/Weirdness: Wrap it Up

My cousin's blog. I was looking for a way to use a scarf on my head and lo and behold, she has an answer. :) Oddness/Weirdness: Wrap it Up: I love, love, LOVE a good headwrap.  I went gaga over this pic of Solange Knowles and had to do a search on how to tie a wrap like that. ...

Family Photo Archives: The Lady D

I stumbled upon a ton of old family photos while helping my mom move into her (beautiful and sorta beachy) new house. This group of photos features my grandmother, Dolores, also known to us as "The Lady D".

 Panama City, Panama (mid 50's)

Aside from owning a wig for every outfit, drinking rum with her breakfast, and dancing in silver stilettos, there's really nothing unusual about my grandma. The pic above is from a patent she won. I had no idea she was a pageant girl, but it makes total sense if you know her.

Colon, Panama, 70's

Her signature color? Green. And she wore it well.
Her signature style: Chunky rings, appropriate wigs, red lipstick, and a white clutch.

Panama City, 1974

Here's a fun tidbit: That's my mother (above) on the right. She actually made all the outfits her and the ladies are wearing. The one in the baby doll dress is my aunt/mother's younger sister (then 12). The Lady D is in white.

With two of my uncles.

Looking at these photos makes me believe that style is genetic.

Pretty Little Edibles

For some reason, I'm obsessed with taking photos of food prep and table decorations at parties. It never makes sense, but I do.  I can't put them in photo albums when everyone would rather see people, so... I put them all here. Well, some of them to be quite honest.

For our Cinco de Mayo party this year, the neighbor hand made these color-dyed chocolate desserts. There's no way something this cute could be delicious, right? Wrong. Had several before someone kindly reminded me they were for the kids.

Marañón I picked from a tree while going for a walk in Portobello. I don't think a lot of people know where cashews come from, but it's literally the sweetest most fragile fruit ever.

So nice...I had to watch it twice!

Ok, I lied....I watched it two more times after posting. :)
